Position Overview:

The Camp Nurse is responsible for the health and safety of the Ramah Day Camp LA community while camp is in session. This is a full-time position and reports to the Camp Director.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Review all camper and staff medical forms prior to camp, in coordination with Ramah in California Clinical Medical Director.
  • Provide first aid to campers and staff according to generally accepted principles and standards of care.
  • Assess and triage campers and staff seeking medical attention and refer to campers/staff’s medical team as needed and according to camp protocols.
  • Provide first response in emergency situations and provide appropriate medical care as the situation requires.
  • Administer prescribed medications as needed and/or as ordered by camper’s physician and administer OTC medications on an as-needed basis in accordance with labeled instructions and standing orders.
  • Monitor and document care and progress of campers/staff in the infirmary in the CampMinder electronic system.
  • Document all medical-related accidents or injuries in a timely manner using an incident report form.
  • Communicate with parent(s) and/or guardian regarding camper injuries, illnesses, or other incidents.
  • Administer treatments as necessary according to nurses’ scope of care, assessment and/or camper’s physician orders.
  • Manage and oversee allergies (including food allergies) and emergency allergy medications.
  • Document and communicate any communicable disease-related concerns while following outlined procedures.
  • Support camp staff in implementing individualized healthcare plans.
  • Ensure infirmary supplies are adequately stocked.

Qualifications:

  • The Summer Camp Nurse must be licensed (RN), and be currently registered, or have reciprocity, to practice in the State of California.
  • Must hold current CPR, First Aid, and AED certifications.
  • The Camp Nurse should relate well to groups of young people and enjoy outdoor activity, fresh air, and beautiful scenery!
  • Experience operating independently in a professional medical setting.

Dates and Salary:

  • Staff Week: June 17- June 21
  • Camper Week 1: June 23-June 28
  • Camper Week 2: July 1- July 5 (no work on July 4)
  • Camper Week 3: July 8- July 12
  • Staff Wrap Up: July 15

Salary: $35-50/hr, commensurate with experience
