Come join a fun, dynamic team and help us bring the greatest summer experience to over 900 children and 250 staff.  Ramah New England, an organization running a Jewish overnight camp and two Jewish day camps, is seeking a full time Director of Camper Care for the overnight camp.

The Director of Camper Care is responsible for many aspects of community care including new camper intakes, onboarding of new camper families, communication with returning families during the year, and assembling and training our summer camper care team. Working in close communication with our camp families, the Director of Camper Care gathers new information and creates plans for the success of all of our campers.  The Director of Camper Care will help ensure the mental, emotional, and social well-being of our camp community.

We are seeking a passionate, collaborative professional with a background in mental health. This position requires a combination of strong interpersonal skills with strong organizational skills. The Director of Camper care should have a commitment to building the year-round and lifelong interpersonal relationships that our families have come to expect.

The Director of Camper Care will report to the Co-Directors.

The Director of Camper Care will work in our Norwood, MA office or remotely from September to early June and then be in residence at camp in Palmer, MA for the camp season (mid- June through mid-August).  Room and board provided while at camp.

Job Description:

  • Connect with parents that want to share feedback about the summer experience.
  • Review applications for new and returning campers.
  • Meet virtually with every new family, conduct a camper intake and welcome them to the Ramah family.
  • Supervise our year-round part time camper support team.
  • Build our camper care team for the summer. Plan and work with the team to prepare for the summer.
  • Respond to parent questions and help them prepare their campers for a successful summer.
  • Help with camper bunking, including parent contact around bunking issues before and after bunking is released.

Preferred Qualifications and Skills:

  • Master’s Degree/Social Work, Counseling, Psychology, or similar field.
  • Previous experience in camp, school, or similar environments preferred.
  • Ability to think and act swiftly in high-stress situations.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills; detail oriented.
  • Caring, empathetic, and patient demeanor with a proactive and enthusiastic approach.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to build trusting and lasting relationships with campers, camper parents, staff, professional colleagues, and other partners.
  • Knowledge of Jewish culture, history, and values.
  • Salary range starts at 70K per year, commensurate with experience. Generous benefits package including PTO, comprehensive health, and dental insurance package.

Start Date: 

Our long-time Director of Camper Care is retiring at the end of the summer.  The new Director of Camper Care will work with our CEO and our retiring Director of Camper Care to develop a start date and onboarding process, with the goal that this new hire will spend some time at camp in Palmer this summer.
