David (Wilt) Hochman & Sharon Weiss Hochman
Robin Hochman (Wilt’s sister) asked me to go to Ramah New England. I was a little hesitant; who knew it would change the course of my life? I was 17 years old (summer of 1975) and worked in the kitchen. Freddy Weiss (another waitress) had tickets to see Springsteen in Providence. Mike Klein, Wilt, Gavin, and I decided to go on our day off. Freddy knew I liked Wilt, so she gave me her ticket. So on the way to the show, Mike Klein’s radiator broke. We knocked on someone’s door and asked for some water for his radiator. The car was in bad shape, but the four of us made it to the show. We walked into the show when Springsteen was about to play “Sandy.” We stayed at Barry Krieger’s house. Making a long story very long, I totally fell in love with my Wilt. (No one knew his name was Dave!!) Every day at Ramah, he wore overalls with a plunger hanging out of his pocket (maintenance!), and I still fell in love with him. Camp Ramah will ALWAYS be part of my life and my heart. Tomorrow is July 20th. Wilt and I celebrate that day EVERY year because that was the day of the Springsteen concert.
We also have 2 children. Ariel is 24 and Aaron is 21. Thank you, Camp Ramah in New England, for changing my life and for giving me the love of my life.
