Website Beth El Synagogue Center

A warm, caring, driven Conservative synagogue in Westchester!

About the Synagogue

Beth El is a joyful, welcoming, and warm community in Westchester, New York. We thrive on learning, singing, and connecting with one another. We celebrate together and support one another through challenging times. We offer many avenues to spiritual connection – from daily minyan to contemplative Shabbat services to traditional Shabbat & holiday services.

About the Religious School

Beth El’s Religious School has around 70 learners in K-7th grades. We are a caring and inclusive community of meaningful and engaging learning that inspires a thirst for Jewish living and learning. Our school provides dynamic Jewish experiences using exciting and innovative methodologies, with an emphasis on skill-building and Jewish literacy, with a focus on Hebrew language; Torah and the Jewish calendar; prayer and Jewish music; Jewish values; and a relationship to Israel. Our teachers, learning specialists, and clergy create a nurturing environment for all learners so that Beth El becomes a second home, instilling a sense of belonging to our community and the Jewish people.

School Details:

Our religious school meets on Thursdays from 4-6 pm and on Sunday mornings from 9-11 am or 9-12 pm, depending on the grade. We are specifically looking for a visual art teacher for Thursdays. Staff are expected to arrive 15 minutes before class starts, and stay through the end of dismissal (usually takes around 10 minutes). We also have faculty meetings occasionally after school.

In addition to classroom time, we also have a robust schedule of art, music, Shinshinim (Israeli youth on their gap years), children’s choir and tefillah.

Available Position:

Middle School Visual Art on Thursdays. This position involves teaching three “periods” of middle school art, with each period lasting 35 minutes. The content is flexible, but will connect to the other topics the learners are studying, including the Holocaust, Jewish text (Pirkei Avot), Jewish holidays, Israel’s complexity, kashrut, spirituality, and preparation for b’nei mitzvah.

The visual art educator will write project plans with the support and guidance of the Director of Youth & Family Engagement, based on our curriculum, with plenty of room for your own interests, ideas and passions!

Compensation: Compensation ranges from $5000-$11,000 (negotiable), depending on how many days/hours per week, as well as based on experience, higher education, and years working at Beth El’s Religious School. Educators earn 1 day of PTO per day they work per week (i.e. someone who teaches only Thursdays has one day of PTO).

How to Apply:
