Park Slope Jewish Center (PSJC), a 300-household egalitarian Conservative synagogue in Park Slope, Brooklyn, New York, seeks a part-time associate clergy member. We are a progressive, diverse, inclusive community with endless opportunities for engagement, spiritual growth and learning.


The hiree will be a core member of the PSJC leadership who will collaborate with the rabbi by leading Shabbat services, providing pastoral care, facilitating Jewish learning and teaching, playing a role in membership engagement and supporting the growth of the PSJC community. We seek someone who can

  • Lead Shabbat services (ca. 16 per year), some in collaboration with the rabbi and some alone. Tasks include working with the rabbi to enhance Shabbat services, providing support to lay leaders, presenting D’var Torah and participating in post-service Kiddish.
  • Assist the rabbi with life-cycle and pastoral care duties, including attending shivah services in people’s homes, visiting sick members at home or in the hospital and leading life-cycle services.
  • Be on-call to respond to shul needs when the rabbi is out of town or on vacation
  • Lead or participate in community teaching and programming opportunities.
  • Participate in preparations for Jewish holidays by assisting the rabbi with member outreach, community learning and holiday programs.


  • Knowledge of the Jewish calendar and lifecycle, Shabbat and Kashrut basics.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and experience with a membership base, volunteers and lay leaders.
  • Ability to teach Jewish texts to all levels of participants.
  • Ability to foresee and plan for the logistical needs of programs and services.
  • Ability to direct others, set priorities, and help others perform.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills; ability to contribute to PSJC’s musical life a plus.
  • A Bachelor’s degree and 3-5 years of relevant professional experience.
