Park Avenue Synagogue (PAS) is one of the largest Conservative congregations in North America. Located on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, the synagogue includes staff of more than 160 talented individuals, who together with our world-class clergy team, serve a membership of over 1,700 households. Our thriving Adult Programming, Early Childhood Center, Congregational School, Youth, and Young Family Education departments provide high quality and inclusive Jewish educational, social, and worship opportunities to our members and the community at large.

Description of Job:

As our Communications Department is nearing the end of an 18-month rebranding initiative, we are looking to hire a Communications Associate to support the vast array of digital and print communications produced by PAS, who has both a passion and talent for writing and editing. The main responsibilities of the Communications Associate will be reviewing most departmental content and copy for our communications, optimizing it to reflect the new verbal brand identity and ensuring it meets PAS quality standards. In addition, the Communications Associate will support our digital and design efforts, producing emails and updating the website to highlight the vast array of programming, events and educational initiatives that characterize the PAS experience. The Communications Associate will thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment and enjoy collaborating with the other members of the Communications Team, PAS departmental partners, and volunteer leaders.

Responsibilities:

  • Edit and proofread all emails, social media, flyers/posters, lobby slides, letters, website copy, brochures, and other institutional content
  • Create new content in the synagogue’s voice, including program descriptions, articles, interviews, and press releases
  • Use iContact to launch emails
  • Design flyers, posters, and graphics
  • Update website; edit descriptions to fit allocated space
  • With Communications Team, proactively plan content for publications
  • Work with departments to write descriptions in PAS style and voice
  • Review web-based registration forms to ensure consistency in look, feel, and content
  • Perform other related duties as assigned or required; duties and responsibilities may be added or changed

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or related field preferred
  • Minimum 2 years related experience in writing, editing, proofreading, and/or marketing
  • Excellent written communications skills and the talent to tailor messages to specific target audiences and ability to adapt to the PAS voice
  • Strong attention to detail and deadlines
  • Fluent in Microsoft Office, content management systems, and social media platforms; experience with HTML, Drupal, Photoshop, iContact, Salesforce, and Form Assembly a plus
  • Adept at learning new technology
  • Capable of managing multiple projects and tasks at one time
  • Able to work in a dynamic environment with changing demands and expectations; open to new things and to working outside of the job description
  • Familiarity with Jewish holidays and customs, Hebrew, and synagogue life a plus
