This full-time professional develops, coordinates, and implements all non-ritual programs; implements under direction of the clergy, and supports initiatives for auxiliaries or teams for Congregation Kol Ami. Responsibilities include program promotion, events/outreach coordination, managing internal and external (press) communication and youth activity efforts for Kol Ami. Additionally, this professional will direct the Youth department including young family programming, youth groups, and young adult programming. This position is not responsible for the religious school but will work closely with the Education Director and the school students.

Program implementation, Infrastructure & Support Responsibilities

  • Plan, coordinate and implement seasonal and yearly (non-ritual) programs
  • Provide additional support, as needed for ritual and educational programs
  • Attend major Synagogue programs and supervise to ensure a smooth and successful execution
  • Daily interaction with committees, auxiliaries, and members to coordinate needs from the Synagogue for lay planned/led programs
  • Delegate administrative components (copies, mailings, orders, purchases, travel arrangements, check requests, etc.) of project planning for programs and follow-up with Executive Director to ensure completion of tasks by deadlines
  • Volunteer recruitment and appreciation initiatives
  • Coordinate volunteer program planning committees among membership to assist with brainstorming and program support
  • Work closely with professional and lay leadership-coordinate, maximize, and diversify, the Congregation’s program schedule, with the objective to increase family and individual participation in congregation life.
  • Attend services and special events as required.
  • Monitors congregation calendar/schedules events and resolves conflicts.
  • Works with communications director to ensure all events are published and publicized to targeted populations via synagogue calendar, Facebook, Instagram, e-mail, texting, flyers, etc

Youth Director Responsibilities

The Youth Director is responsible for fostering and supervising the growth and viability of the

Jewish youth culture at Congregation Kol Ami through youth group activities and programs for children zero through young adult and their families. The Youth Director will work directly with the Rabbi, Youth Commission Chair, Education Director and Executive Director in creating, scheduling, planning and implementing the local and promoting and participating in regional and international United Synagogue Youth (USY) programs and activities.

  • Foster Jewish youth culture by building youth group communities and facilitating all youth group programs
  • Serve as an advisor/counselor to members of our youth groups
  • Maintain a basic database of teens in our program, making sure that information is correct and up to date.
  • Coordinate, attend and supervise (or provide adult supervision at) all youth group events for our four youth groups for children ages Kindergarten through High School. This includes at least one event per month for each youth group (sometimes they can combine) plus working with leadership of the two oldest groups.
  • Create and promote events via various modalities, e.g., flyers, email, and social media posts.
  • Promote attendance and work with sub-regional, regional and international programmers, coordinating transportation and supervision for events.
  • Maintain close contact with the appropriate other regional Conservative Congregations to promote joint activities.
    Maintain regular communication with Hanegev Region Administration and Regional Director.
  • High Holiday Services – In partnership with the Director of Education assist and manage high holiday services. This includes assisting our Religious School Director in implementing High Holiday services for our youth community (ages 0 – 12) during both Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur.
  • Coordinate with Rabbi and Education Director programming for young children and their families.
  • Coordinate with Rabbi and Education Director Shabbat programming for youth.
  • Develop quarterly (or more frequent) programming for young adults who are members of Kol Ami or the broader community.
  • Coordinate the engagement of college age alumni of the Kol Ami Youth Program through programming or other means. Support clergy outreach of college students.

Responsibilities of Kol Ami Professional Staff

  • Attend weekly Kol Ami professional staff meetings.
  • Attend Kol Ami Youth Commission Meetings as scheduled by the Youth (or other relevant) Vice President.
  • Prepare yearly budget with Youth (or other relevant) VP and Executive Director. Oversee and track expenses of the Youth Department utilizing appropriate fiduciary responsibility.
  • Work in a collaborative manner with other Kol Ami staff and lay leaders, be a self-starter, and develop creative ideas for implementation.
  • Participate in appropriate professional development opportunities.
  • Represent the synagogue at community programs and play an active role in synagogue community wide events.
