Park Avenue Synagogue (PAS) is one of the largest Conservative congregations in North America. Located on Manhattan’s Upper East Side, the synagogue includes staff of more than 160 talented individuals, who together with our world-class clergy team, serve a membership of over 1,700 households. Our thriving Adult Programming, Penn Family Early Childhood Center, Congregational School, Youth, and Young Family Education departments provide high quality and inclusive Jewish educational, social, and worship opportunities to our members and the community at large.

Principal Music Educator (PME) is a full-time position, reporting to the Cantor and working closely with the education team. PME will serve as the central point person for all music education, curriculum development, and teaching for Early Childhood through Teens. The PME will teach Jewish music classes for children and teens, lead Congregational School and family services on Shabbat, holidays, and High Holidays. The PME will liaise with member families, the education and clergy teams, and the administrative staff with a positive demeanor, cordial “can-do” attitude, and mature sense of professionalism.



  • Develop curriculum, create materials for and teach/lead:
    • All Early Childhood Center (ECC) secular and Jewish music classes, tefillah, special services, and events.
    • All Young Family Education (YFE) classes, services, and events for both weekday, Shabbat, and holiday
    • Congregational School (CS) music classes, services, and events for both weekday, Shabbat, and holidays
    • Camp Keshet/Summer Programming
    • Large scale planning in collaboration with Camp Director
    • Develop curriculum for and lead twice weekly music classes
    • Occasional Shabbat programs
    • Possible summer classes for YFE, depending on the needs

High Holidays – Selihot through Simchat Torah

  • Lead CS services, family services with clergy, YFE Ne’ilah service, YFE and CS Sukkot services and activities.
  • Community-wide Simchat Torah services.
  • Participate in weekly Education, Music department, and staff meetings.
  • Lead and coordinate all PAS Youth musical experiences for rehearsals and performances (ie, Youth Choir, Parkapellas, Teen Rock Band, etc)
  • Collaborate with various departments to create asynchronous content (i.e. videos,recordings)
  • Other special Music department projects and services as assigned (e.g. Family Siddurseries development, Zimriyah, Havdalah programs, etc.)
  • Festival holidays, services and community celebrations (e.g. Mitzvah Day, Shabbaton,Sukkot, Hanukkah concert).


  • Background in Jewish Music.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with members, clergy, and professional staff.
  • Ability to teach, engage and inspire Jewish music among children, teens, and adults.
  • Proficient in playing musical instruments.
