Full Time Faculty Position: Jewish Studies Teacher

 

Purpose

CJDS is searching for a full-time Jewish Studies Faculty position to teach and model exciting learning and discovery. We have a two-teacher model in each grade that encourages integration among the school’s areas of study.

 

Jewish Studies teachers at CJDS teach in a positive learning environment where contemporary and classical Jewish questions, texts, skills, and practice come together in joyful and inspiring ways. Jewish Studies Teachers at CJDS work closely with their General Studies team teachers and are responsible for teaching Hebrew, Classical and Modern Jewish Text Study, Jewish Experience (holidays, lifecycle and Israel) and Tefillah. You would be responsible for the design, detailed planning, and instruction of child-centered, age-appropriate curricula in these areas, as well as a thoughtful application of  Tal Am curriculum, which integrates Hebrew instruction, Jewish text, music, and more.

 

Teachers have the specific responsibility for supervising students within the classroom and other assigned areas; developing engaging and inspiring lesson plans and delivering group and individual student instruction within established curriculum guidelines; collaborating with other teachers, other professional staff, and administrators in addressing instructional and/or classroom issues; and responding inquiries from parents/guardians regarding instructional program and student progress. The strongest candidate will exhibit mastery in differentiating instruction according to learning differences.

This position reports directly to the Principal.

 

Duties and Responsibilities

●      Commitment to CJDS Vision and Mission

●      Engage in continuous learning to maintain and enhance knowledge of subject area and pedagogy practice, including participating in and sharing learning from professional development opportunities

●      Consistently and effectively teach and model CJDS cultural norms of behavior

●      Prepare for and facilitate Parent-Teacher Conferences

●      Develop and sustain relationships and maintain appropriate personal boundaries with colleagues, parents, and members of the CJDS community that are professional, collegial, and collaborative

●      Work hours M, Wed, Th 7:50am-3:50pm; Tuesdays 7:50-5pm; Fridays 7:50am- 2:50pm, plus occasional events and retreats

●      Carry out lunch duty, recess duty, morning duty, and bus duty assignments effectively

●      Serve as an ambassador for the school formally and informally

●      Serve on school-wide and standing committees as needed.

 

Qualifications:

The successful candidate holds a Degree in Education and/or Jewish Studies ideally with at least 3 years of experience as a teacher leader capable of implementing, and evaluating and where needed, revising/designing curriculum. She or he must possess a positive attitude, excellent written and verbal skills, strong organizational skills, and proven success within a work setting that requires collaboration, cooperation, and collegiality.
